Bert & Buoy opens first flagship store in Dartmouth, Devon

Bert & Buoy has opened its highly anticipated first store in the coastal town of Dartmouth; one of Devon’s most popular and stunning locations. The old fish mongers has been transformed into a flagship retail experience stocking art and stationery, and, home and lifestyle lines.

The Bert & Buoy Dartmouth store was officially opened on Saturday 17th November 2018 by Keith Brymer Jones; internationally renowned ceramicist, judge on BBC2’s The Great Pottery Throw Down and collaborator on the Bert & Buoy ceramics.

“Independent shops are incredibly important for Britain’s high streets. Not only do they give customers a far more diverse and interesting offering, but they also define the individuality of any given high street. This new Bert and Buoy is one such store. I’m incredibly honoured and delighted to be a part of its creation.” Keith Brymer Jones, Ceramicist and Head of Design, MAKE International

The store has been transformed from a fish mongers and designed by Bert with local craftsmen using reclaimed materials, from the old gym wooden floor to re-purposed boat parts used to create interesting new counters and displays.

Everything in the store starts as an illustration by Bert before being designed and applied to hand-picked materials and products. The store is adorned with bespoke giclée printed signed art, hand screen printed stationery, ceramics made in collaboration with MAKE/Keith Brymer Jones, lighting made in collaboration with Quirk UK and homeware including shaped character cushions, cosmetic to shopper bags and luxe kitchen textiles.

“I started Bert & Buoy with a pop up stand at The Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. This is nautical, but not as you know it, and the reaction to our contemporary designs has been incredible. Fast forward 3 years and the enchantment of Dartmouth has me hook, line and sinker. I’m thrilled to open our first store at Fairfax Place in Dartmouth and would like to thank everyone for their support as we open for the first time.” Bert Fowler, Design, Illustrator & Founder of Bert & Buoy
