Hampton by Hilton to feature Bert & Buoy
Are you ready to hear about a special collaboration? THAT Group are set to exhibit the work of Bert & Buoy's Bert Fowler in the new At Harbourside and Hampton by Hilton in South Devon.
Fabio Bragoli of THAT Group took the role of independent curator: scouting for the right artist – selecting Bert - and then exploring the possibilities for creation and presentation of the artists’ work. At Harbourside will be an immersive and unique experience of Bert’s work. This collaboration seeks to create a genuinely authentic connection between artistic creation and interior space.
Bert’s signature style is a new take on nautical - minimal realism – using precise graphic lines, Cubist like shapes and bursts of colour to present original wildlife compositions and enchanting repeat patterns.
THAT Group’s Peter Tisdale and Fabio Bragoli have been on a journey with Bert including site visits, artistic development and material selection; and then working with local and regional makers to turn ideas into site specific installations and works that will be a permanent feature at the hotel. The works are exclusive to At Harbourside and are not just displayed in the hotel and building’s public areas, but also decorate bedrooms and accessories.
“The idea of working with a South Devon artist allows us to transform a world-leading hotel brand into a relevant part of the local scene. We chose Bert Fowler not only because of his acclaimed and high-quality work, but also for the delightful seaside charm it will bring to our latest development, the perfect fit for us. Everyone who steps inside At Harbourside will be exposed to original and contemporary interiors by THAT Group and art works by Bert from mass scale wall hangings to tiny details on keycards. We are incredibly excited to watch this development and subsequent projects take shape and look forward to sharing the ongoing progress with the public as this continues.” – Felix Truckel – THAT Group
“Hotels tend to acquire art that is aesthetic yet as neutral as possible. By contrast, THAT Group seek to enrich the destinations they develop, creating places where visitors and residents can co-exist. This commission is ludicrously joyous, inspired by the place I live and love. It seeks to both reflect and celebrate the icons and quirks of life on the Devon coast.” - Bert Fowler - Artist, Designer, Illustrator
